Holm vs. de Randamie
UFC legend Anderson Silva is set to face off in a middleweight bout against Derek Brunson, in the co-main event, at UFC 208.
Silva at 41 years of age, is looking to get things back on track as he nears the end of his career. After an impressive streak of winning 17 straight, Silva has dropped his last 5 (0-4, 1 NC), including his most recent bout against Daniel Cormier at UFC 200.
Brunson at 8 years younger, enjoyed a streak of his own, winning 5 straight before losing by way of TKO to Robert Whittaker at a UFC Fight Night in November of 2016. Prior to the loss against Whittaker, Brunson had won 4 straight by KO or TKO, with the longest bout going 2:39 in the first round.
With Brunson relatively unknown compared to Silva, this fight has critics asking "why?". Whether it be to help propel the career of Brunson, or to give an aging legend a chance to get back in the win column, one thing is for sure, the outcome will strongly affect the future of both fighters.
The main event of the evening will see Holly Holm battling it out against Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural Women's Featherweight Championship.
Holly Holm is a former multiple-time world champion boxer, and former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion. Holm went undefeated in her first seven MMA fights, before joining the UFC. She then went on to win three straight, including a major upset in a title bout against then champion, Ronda Rousey. At UFC 196, Holm lost her first title defense, by way of submission, to Meisha Tate in the 5th round. At UFC on FOX, in July of 2016, Holm was again defeated, this time by decision, by Valentina Shevchenko. For Holm, UFC is all about redemption.
Germaine de Randamie, a striker in her own right, has won 3 of her 4 UFC fights, falling only to Amanda Nunes by way of TKO. de Randamie is coming off back-to-back wins at UFC 185 and then UFC Fight Night in May of 2016. She won both fights by TKO, showing her ability on her feet, throwing punches. This will be de Randamie's first 5 round fight, so longevity will be the key, as Holm is known for her stamina, but the ability to go toe-to-toe with Holm makes for an interesting match-up,
